Become a member of Samoa House Library (SHL) and support an independent, community-led library and cultural space on Karangahape Road, Tāmaki Makaurau.
Membership helps sustain SHL, its collection, staff and public programmes, while giving you access to the library outside public opening hours.
Membership options
Monthly membership: $45 per month
Annual membership: $500 per year
Paying annually saves you $40 compared with monthly payments over a year.
A $60 refundable access-card bond is required in addition to your membership fee.
Who is membership for?
Membership is for people who value having a library and a place to work independently outside regular opening hours. It might suit writers, researchers, artists, independent contractors, students, or creatives whose studio is a laptop.
What membership offers

Extended access: Use the library daily from 7am to midnight, including during scheduled holiday closures.

The collection: Browse and use our growing collection of more than 7,000 books and other resources.

Space to work and think: Read, write, study, research or work on your own projects.

Wi-Fi and printing: Access the library’s Wi-Fi and printing facilities.

Community: Be part of a shared space for learning, conversation and exchange.

Support: Your membership also provides valuable ongoing support for the future of SHL.
SHL occasionally hosts public programmes outside regular opening hours, which may affect access to the main library space. We will notify you in advance when this is the case.
How to become a member
To join, email [email address] or speak to us in person at the library. We’ll provide a membership information form and our after-hours access guidelines for you to read and agree to before receiving your access card.
Membership is paid by bank transfer. Monthly members need to set up a recurring payment for the first day of each month, while annual members pay $500 upfront. The $60 access-card bond is refunded when your card is returned, subject to the access-card terms.
