Daniel Michael Satele is a doctoral candidate in English at the University of Auckland. He is a practitioner of traditional Polynesian weaving and a singer, currently training in classical Hindustani music.

 

His writing has been published in ArtAsiaPacific; The New Zealand Listener; Art New Zealand; the anthology Niu Voices (2006) and many other places. In 2003 he was runner-up for the Katherine Mansfield Memorial Award, New Zealand’s preeminent short story writing prize at the time.

 

Satele has participated in numerous exhibitions and performances over many years. To name a few, in 2018 he collaborated with Oliver Gilbert on The Half of Life at RM gallery, Auckland. In 2017 his work featured in The Cold Islanders at Waikato Museum, Hamilton. He is the star of the independent feature film Rebecca 2 (2011).
